Care Guide

Now onto caring for your wig! This is extremely important and often overlooked when you have purchased your wig.
Look at it in the sense that you are caring for your investment to increase the longevity to keep it looking as good as new... for longer! Just like you would a new car or a piece of jewellery.

I have noted below my tips and tricks for keeping your hair in the best condition as possible!

Please show your wig some love!
Everyday care
Use a soft bristle brush or wide-tooth comb to brush and detangle your wigs.
Be gentle and work from the ends upwards and brush regularly throughout the day to prevent any major tangling/ matting.
Be careful when using wig adhesives and ensure you select the correct adhesive suited to your wear. For example, using super strong wig glue/ tape for daily wear may not be necessary and may damage the lace.

When using adhesives, be gentle when removing your wig and take your time.
Be sure to use the relevant adhesive removal products or hot water to assist. This will help prevent damage to both the lace and hair knots.
Regulary use nourishing and moisturising hair oils to prevent the hair from drying and becoming brittle. Aim your application of products to the mid's and end's of the hair. Just think, your wig receives no natural oils from the body that our bio hair receives from the scalp.
Store your wig within a silk bag or on a wig stand out of direct sunlight.
Avoid sleeping in your wig however if you prefer to do so, wear a silk cap or use a silk pillowcase to protect the hair from damage and tangling.

Washing & Styling
I recommend washing & conditioning your wig every 2-3 weeks however this is completely dependant on wear. If you regularly wear your wig whilst sweating in the gym or if you work within a smelly environment, then you may need to wash your hair more regularly than if you wear your wig a few times a week.
Always brush your wig prior to washing, this will prevent further tangling.

Use sulphate-free moisturising shampoo and conditioner products to protect the longevity of the hair and prevent the hair from drying out/ becoming brittle.
You may use colour protecting ranges however be careful when applying that this does not dye the delicate lace. Please bare this in mind when using neutralising purple and blue shampoo's also.
There are numerous ways to wash your wigs however personally, I choose to do this in the bathroom sink. Start by filling the sink with luke-warm water alongside shampoo product and create suds. Place your wig within the suds and gently with your fingers, work off in circular motions any make-up/ adhesive build up.

Empty the sink and rinse off the shampoo. Repeat the process with conditioner but be careful not to let the conditioner saturate the knots as this can speed up shedding. Personally, I leave the hair in the water mixture for a couple minutes before emptying the sink and rinsing the hair.
Always use heat protectant products when using heat styling tools. Consider using a lower temperature.
I recommend using a deep-conditioning mask applied directly to the hair once a month to keep the hair in the best condition possible. For a routine mask, I leave on for approx. 20 minutes before rinsing.
If the hair begins to feel dry, you can leave the mask on overnight.
Do not apply the mask to the roots or the lace, mid's to end's only.
Do not spray perfume directly onto the wig as the alcohol in the product can cause the hair to become dry.
Once the hair has been fully rinsed of product, blot dry with a towel. Do not rub!
Leave to air dry on a wig stand, I use a open frame wig stand as opposed to a mannequin head to allow air to dry the cap.
